Playa del Ingles is the biggest resort in Gran Canaria and it is situated on the southwest coast. It is popular with old and young tourists and families seem to like it too, although some of the areas can be noisy. Maspalomas is next door and this might be a better area for the over 50s or anyone with young kids.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants in Playa del Ingles but everything is more spread out than in Puerto Rico or Mogan for example, because in Puerto de Mogan everything is near the harbour and Puerto Rico has two main shopping centres.
If you are wondering which resort is the best, it depends on what you are looking for, as well as the time of year. If you like nightlife, you will find that Playa del Ingles has several shopping centres, each of which also has bars and restaurants in (the Cita Centre is mainly German, the Yumbo Centre is primarily gay, the Aguila Roja is mainly Irish bars, the Kasbah is a mixture etc) and there is a nice beach running all the way along the coast so wherever you stay in Playa del Ingles you can be on the beach within a few minutes.
There is not a huge amount to do in Playa del Ingles if the weather is bad (fortunately it is usually hot and sunny!) because it is mainly beach-oriented, although you can get a bus to Vecindario to do some shopping or visit a restaurant or cafe to try some Canarian cooking if you get the odd rainy day. Have a look here to find the best prices for Playa del Ingles hotels.

I don’t think so! There is no harbour in the Playa del Ingles area either. You can take a trip to Arguineguin, Puerto Rico or Mogan and try some fresh fish in one of the fresh fish restaurants there. Or buy your own from a local shop (along with plenty of ice to get it back to your apartment fresh).

I don’t know anywhere in Playa del Ingles or nearby that sells fresh fish. I haven’t been in the area for a while. Perhaps the EuroSpar in San Fernando. It’s in Calle Francisco – http://www.canarnet.es/photos/gran-canaria/shops-shopping-centers-markets/146-0-0-0/image146.html else you’ll need to go to one of the harbours and buy your own from one of the fishing boats. I used to get free fish the whole time I worked on the Barakuda Dos fishing boat which is why I never had to buy it

Hi Darren, I don’t have a date for that yet and often it’s not set until a couple of months beforehand. It isn’t listed on http://www.maspalomas.com yet (the PDI council website) so I emailed them asking. I’ll let you know what they say.
