Situated close to Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas, Meloneras is on the south coast. There are lots of high-end boutiques, designers shops and jewellers in Meloneras Gran Canaria, as well as great restaurants. The bars, shopping centres, cafes and restaurants offer all kinds of cuisines, not just Canarian cooking, and there are also wine bars where you can sit and enjoy a romantic sunset.

Meloneras offers a sandy beach where you can soak up the sun or enjoy a swim, and at night there are lots of places you can go. You won’t find all the lager louts that you’d get in Puerto Rico or Playa del Ingles in Meloneras.

You might like to try the casino too. The hotels in Meloneras are four or five star and the Lopesan Baobab Resort is one of the nicer ones, or you can try the Lopesan Villa del Conde which is sumptuous as well.

If you are into golf, you will be pleased to know there is a newly built 18-hole golf course in Meloneras. If not, there is plenty of shopping you can do and the beach is also beautiful. Meloneras is a nice resort to pick if you want a really relaxing holiday in Gran Canaria.

If you are looking for Italian restaurants in Gran Canaria you do have to be careful. I’ve eaten at some really bad ones. But as you can see from the reviews Gran Italia is usually praised by visitors and this is because of the location as well as the tasty food.

Try the swordfish with prawns and mussels. You will be impressed with the extensive wine list too. If you’re looking for somewhere quiet to have a romantic meal, Gran Italia Maspalomas probably won’t fit the bill, because it tends to be busy (more so than the neighbouring restaurants) and loud at times. But this just adds to the atmosphere if you are looking for great food in a vibrant location.

The steaks are huge and the paella is also nice and tastes very fresh. If you have a starter and main meal or a main meal and dessert (or all three!) they will give you free coffee and liqueur afterwards as well.

Enjoy a view of the sunset as you enjoy your Italian food. You shouldn’t need to reserve a table – we never had any problems even when we turned up on a Friday or Saturday night in the busy season.

With its golden dunes, upmarket hotels and beautiful beaches, it is little wonder that so many people flock here every year. Maspalomas is the oldest tourist resort in Gran Canaria and there is a 68 metre tall lighthouse there, as well as plenty of bars, restaurants, cafes and shops.

If you are staying in Playa del Inglés you can walk along the beach path to Maspalomas or get a taxi for a couple of euros. There is a nudist beach a couple of miles from the lighthouse (walk up the beach towards Playa del Ingles and you will see the signs).

The carnival features singing, dancing, competitions and parades.

The Las Palmas Carnival might be the second largest carnival in the world, after Brazil, but the Maspalomas Carnival is a lot of fun too and if you are staying in Playa del Ingles or Maspalomas during the middle of March, there will be plenty to see and do.
