New Year’s Day 2010 in Gran Canaria

As you might now, I work in the harbour, Puerto Escala, selling fishing trips. Christmas and New Year is the busiest period of the entire year, apart from July to September (the summer season). However… new year’s day is the most boring day to work in the harbour. As you might expect there is NOBODY venturing into the port before at least lunchtime on January 1st!

Whether this is because the nightlife in Gran Canaria continues until the small hours and people don’t get to bed until 7 or 8am, or whether it is because traditionally January 1st is a day of lie-ins I don’t know. But I always make sure I have plenty of reading material on Janaury 1st in Gran Canaria because I pretty much have the entire harbour to myself!!!! 🙂
