If you have a holiday in Gran Canaria Playa del Ingles might well be your resort. Fortunately there are plenty of things to do in the area. You might be interested in car hire in the Canary Islands and then the whole island is your oyster!
1. Walking and Hiking
Mike and I recently walked from the lighthouse in Maspalomas along the beach (close your eyes at the nudist area if you want!!) right into the heart of Playa del Ingles. It took about an hour and a half and we walked on the sand the whole time. You can see the whole Playa del Ingles photo selection here!
2. Camel Safari
If you are feeling adventurous you can do a camel ride through the dunes. You can get a short ride for 9 euros or a long ride with lunch for about 30 euros.
There are several shopping centres in Playa del Ingles, such as CC Tropical, CC Kasbah, CC Metro and a lot of San Fernando. The best thing is to get a map, find anything marked CC (centro comerciál) and have a look around!
4. Eating and Drinking
In Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles there are many bars and restaurants. In fact, way too many to mention so I will just offer my recommendations on a couple of my favourites! Try El Gaucho in CC Kasbah if you love meat or try Sakura III near the CC Cita if you want Japanese food.
Try any of the small restaurants along the beach front for a nice lunch snack. You can get chicken and chips for under 4 euros in some places. There is a lot of Gran Canaria nightlife so take a siesta as the locals do before you hit the clubs!
Playa del Ingles beach and Maspalomas beach merge together. This is a long golden beach with gentle waves in most parts. There are little bars all along the beach where you can get refreshments and like Puerto Rico beach, the Playa del Ingles beach is clean.
6. Theme Parks
There is nothing like Alton Towers here (unfortunatlely!) but you can visit Holiday World for some fairground rides and a bowling alley or Sioux City for a country and western style show. The Clint Eastwood film “A Fistful of Dollars” was shot there. Aqualand is a big water park with lots of slides. Palmitos Park Gran Canaria is fun too.
There are plenty of mini golf courses around the resort and if you prefer proper golf you can play a round at the Campo de Golf Course. For golf courses Gran Canaria actually offers several so if you like to play you might like to try more than one.
There is plenty more to do in the resort of Playa del Ingles which you will discover. Also check out 7 Things to Do in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria if you are going to visit Puerto Rico.
